The Kentucky Derby is coming up this Saturday and my money is going on…
I Want Revenge
Normally in a 20 horse field i’d look for a live longshot but i just can’t look past this guy, even with his come from behind style and 19 year old jockey guiding him through traffic i think he’ll find a way to win.
My other top contenders are…
Friesan Fire
Pioneer Of The Nile
Both Friesan Fire and Pioneer Of The Nile have won all 3 of their races this year and are coming into this race off of their best performance last time out.
Those are my top 3 contenders, Dunkirk is my 4th choice and could run big in the Belmont Stakes, he’s short on experience having only 3 lifetime starts, and regular rider Gomez opted to ride Pioneer Of The Nile, i consider him a late bloomer and someone who could run better later in the year.
A longshot i was considering is Desert Party, coming in from Dubai, he has that tactical speed, stamina, and class that makes him a contender, but the one thing that put me off him was that regular rider Frankie Dettori didn’t fly in to ride him, i know Frankie was talking about how he wanted to win this race several months ago and this was his horse, so that put me off him. I suspect the reason is that they know his stablemate Regal Ransom, the other horse from Dubai is the better horse at the moment, Regal Ransom is the dark horse longshot, he likes the extra distance, he ran the best race of his life last time out winning the $2 million UAE Derby, his sire Distorted Humor produced 2003 winner Funny Cide, and jockey Alan Garcia is a big money jockey who won the last Triple Crown race of last year with the longest shot on the board, Da’Tara at 40-1 in the Belmont, so there’s a lot to like about this guy.
Others worth mentioning are Hold Me Back, Musket Man, Papa Clem, and Summer Bird, they have an outside chance of hitting the board at big odds
Bets…
For Exactas, Trifectas, Superfectas, i will box these 4 horses
I Want Revenge
Friesan Fire
Pioneer Of The Nile
Regal Ransom
All 4 are coming into this race off of big wins and ran the best race of their lives last time out, all 4 are working bullets at Churchill Downs in morning workouts, and all 4 look ready to roll.
I Want Revenge has something a little special about him that caught my eye, so i will put most of my eggs in his basket and bet him across the board, he will be one of the favorites but his odds should be over 3-1, he is not an overwhelming favorite and was already beaten by 2 other horses in this race earlier this year, Pioneer Of The Nile and Papa Clem, so you’ll get a decent price on him.
Good Luck
